If you were arrested and taken away from everyone and everything you ever knew and loved, would you make it?

What if you were taken out of society for a year? Five years? Or even ten long years?!

On March 18th, 2002, Scott Farrell was brought to Sing Sing on a bus with no windows on a cloudy day. He was twenty-eight years old. He didn’t know anyone around him — and it seemed like everyone else already knew everyone. Then a lifer named Cooly decided the new guy was his payday, and Scott Farrell walked into Sing Sing a man nobody knew and came out of that cell a man nobody touched: Bear.

Becoming Bear is the prologue to Scott Farrell’s Prison Chronicle: The Last 365 — the true story of his final year in the New York State prison system, written while he was living it. This is where the Chronicle begins, and where the Bear was born.

About the author

Scott Farrell is an ex-con and ex-drug addict who turned his life around and is now using writing to elevate it again from the depths of prison and addiction, where he wrote himself back to the surface throughout a 15-year prison sentence. Upon being released he reopened his small carpet and upholstery cleaning service on Long Island and continued to head in a positive direction — getting his writing published and surviving parole successfully.
