A true story.
The first day in prison is unforgettable — the sights, the sounds, the smells of a place built to own every detail of your life. And here’s the first thing you learn in that place: while nobody knows your name, you’re nobody, and that’s the safest you’ll ever be.
The danger starts the day your enemies know your name.
That’s when officers are saying it at the bar on Friday night. That’s when a rumor gets your cell torn apart and a dirty urine manufactured against you. That’s when you get shipped back to Attica fifteen months after you thought you’d seen the last of it — because you broke the cardinal rule and wrote to the Inspector General, and every officer in the facility knows exactly who you are.
Scott H. Farrell served a fifteen-year New York sentence. This is his account of what a name costs inside — and how he walked out of there with his still his own.
Adults only — an unflinching, true account of prison life.
About the author
Scott Farrell is an ex-con and ex-drug addict who turned his life around and is now using writing to elevate it again from the depths of prison and addiction, where he wrote himself back to the surface throughout a 15-year prison sentence.
