For readers · Beta reading
Help shape a book before it’s finished.
Some of our authors share their drafts before publishing. As a beta reader, you read the book early and tell the author, privately and honestly, what works and what doesn’t. Your feedback can change the final book.

How beta reading works
Pick a draft
Choose a book that interests you. Each one shows what the author would most like feedback on.
Read it early
Your copy is stamped with your details, just for you. Please keep the draft private.
Tell the author what you think
Answer the author’s questions in your dashboard. It goes straight to them, and nothing is published.

Questions readers ask
How is this different from a review copy?
Review copies are finished books, and readers share public reviews on Amazon or Goodreads. Beta reads are drafts, and your feedback goes privately to the author to help them improve the book before it’s published.
Do I need to be an expert?
Not at all. Authors want to hear from ordinary readers: where you got confused, where you lost interest, and what you loved. Honest, specific feedback is what helps most.
Can I review the book later?
Once the book is published, the author may invite their beta readers to read the finished version. Until then, please keep the draft private and don’t post public reviews of it.
What is a Trusted Beta Reader?
After each beta read, the author rates how helpful your feedback was. Readers who consistently give great, thoughtful feedback will be invited to become Trusted Beta Readers, with a badge on their profile and the option to offer paid beta reading. We’re launching it once our first beta readers have had the chance to earn it, so your feedback from day one counts.
Is it free?
Yes, always. You just need a free AuthorWing reader account.
